Kalintura

by Chad Montero

Kalintura (v., Bisaya): “to calm down”
Kalintura (n., Bicolano): "fever”

Art endures, even in a pandemic.

In the last three months, the coronavirus has changed our lives dramatically, suddenly filling our daily routine with fear, anxiety, and doubt -- the new normal. And the slow arrival of aid and solutions seem to be complications of an illness that is already difficult to fight.

Yet the country's beauty still arises – the sea is clearer and mountains show against the sun. And at night, a bright moon seems to attract those winged creatures from a distant island. They say that the night ends and the sun rises again. The kite will again fly with the birds to greet the sky. We must recover our breath and move through our pain.
