“There is a time for many words, and there is also a time for sleep.”
― Homer, The Odyssey

This series of works is a challenge to capture the freedom and the uncontrolled gesture of a man sleeping. It fascinates me as an artist to capture the design of the man’s body in sleep for it signifies an end of "chaos" and a sense of "hope" when one wakes up.

In this unhealthy and anxiety-filled world where sleep is taken for granted, we have forgotten that it is a major part of growth and development. It reminds me of a story in the bible about the scared disciples on a boat in the middle of the storm, wondering how their master could sleep so soundly. Sometimes we really need to accept that we cannot control everything and that all we need is to relax and to be still.

This project is also a homage to my father, Rudy, a significant character in these works. They represent an intimate conversation with my father.

Rodel Jacintos is a self-taught artist. As a young boy, his passion in art was nurtured by his Father who taught him how to realistically draw cowboys and indians. It was his first education on how to draw the human form, now reflected in his works that highlight movement and different human gestures.

It was the words -"dapat nag fine arts ka"- that kept on haunting him during his Electrical Engineering days in college, until he found himself working in an art gallery by accident. There, he learn about the local art scene and developed his understanding in his art practice.
